In the Railway Clinical Hospital at the Irkutsk-Passazhirsky railway station of Russian Railways, a spinal surgical procedure was performed at the Center for Neurosurgery, which has recently been re-equipped. This operation used the ZEISS OPMI Pentero 900 microscope supporting the TRENION 3D technology. The surgery was performed by Professor Vadim Byvaltsev, Chief Neurosurgeon of Russian Railways, Head of the Neurosurgery Department at the Railway Clinical Hospital at the Irkutsk-Passazhirsky railway station, Doctor of Medical Science. The TRENION technology was used to broadcast the surgery in real time; a video in 3D was also recorded. These materials will be used for training medical practitioners and students.
ZEISS and OPTEC congratulate Eric Betzig, Stefan Hell and William Moerner on winning the 2014 Nobel Prize for Chemistry. All three underscored the value of microscopy in research with their discovery of methods to achieve superresolution.
